Unlike traditional single-component refrigeration systems that cool in fixed temperature steps, a Mixed Refrigerant Cycle (MRC) uses a blend of hydrocarbons (such as methane, ethane, propane, and nitrogen). As this mixture passes through the heat exchanger, the different boiling points allow for continuous phase-change cooling. This close match to the natural gas cooling curve minimizes thermodynamic energy losses and improves liquefaction efficiency by up to 15-20% compared to traditional nitrogen expansion loops.

What measures are taken to prevent low-temperature metal embrittlement?

Operating at deep cryogenic temperatures (below -45℃ down to -180℃) can cause carbon steels to lose their ductility and fail under pressure.
